Respiratory Infections: Diagnosis and Therapy

Respiratory infections are caused by germs, such as viruses, bacteria, or other harmful microbes, that affect the respiratory system. These germs are often spread through respiratory secretions—like mucus and saliva when a person coughs, sneezes, talks, or laughs.

Some of the most common respiratory infections include COVID-19, the flu, pneumococcal disease, and the common cold.
